Taking a break from Final Fantasy

This is just a quick little update to explain when the next part of the Final Fantasy retrospective is coming. To be blunt, it won’t be coming for a while. I’ve decided to take a break from it until the new year for a couple reasons. One is just good old-fashioned burn out. I’ve reviewed seven RPG’s this year and not only are those games long to beat, they’re also long to review. I mean you see how long they are to read; imagine how long they took to write.

Another is simply because there’s other games coming out soon that I want to look at. There’s a new Castlevania game coming out next week and there’s no way I wasn’t going to look at that. Plus there’s the Ocarina of Time remake and that just seems like too big a game too ignore.

This is on top of the fact that the holiday season is coming up, and I have a lot of obligations during that time to work on these reviews. Seeing family and the like. I have a life outside of this, and at the end of the day that takes priority. This is something I do for fun, not profit.

I debated whether too keep working on it in the background, but that isn’t my style. When I work on a project I put my all into it and put everything on the backburner. Mentally that just makes it easier for me. And with how dense the Final Fantasy games get… well you can imagine how much of my mental faculties they take when I’m working on those reviews.

So I thought it best to take a break. At least for a little bit. I’m not abandoning it like I did the Yakuza Files because, unlike that series, I actually enjoy writing the Casual Retrospectives. Yakuza Files was exhausting and not enjoyable at all for me with how dense those games were. Final Fantasy isn’t nearly as bad, and at least with that I found a formula that works for me.
